The Asanas – Child’s Pose Tutorial

Balasana

Child’s pose is often used as a preparatory or restorative posture. In this video, I demonstrate three different variations. Find child's pose anytime you need to rest or catch your breath.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Start kneeling

  • Bring the big toes to touch

  • Take the knees wide on the mat

  • Inhale as you stretch your torso forward over your thighs

  • Settle hips towards the heels

  • Arms stretched long out in front, shoulder-distance apart

Modifications and Variations

  • Supported Child’s pose

  • Extended Child’s pose with or without a block underneath the forehead

  • Traditional Child’s pose

  • With Anjali Mudra behind the back of the head
