Three Ways to Create Space to Respond NOT React

Have you ever felt angry and said something you regretted later? We've all been there before, right? If you're like me, you need time to cool down, process your thoughts and feelings before responding so that you avoid saying something hurtful.

This is the difference between reacting and responding. When you react, you say things you don't mean because you're being flooded with strong emotions, you're highly agitated, you feel firey or feisty, and you lash out. When you come from this place, you're coming from a place of hurt, anger, disappointment, and taking things personally. When you hit pause by choosing one of these three tips or using all three of them at the same time, you're able to reflect on the situation, figure out how you feel and what you think, and then effectively communicate your desires, needs, and truth with compassion and kindness for yourself and those around you. That sounds much better, doesn't it?
